Augustana Lutheran Church
Frequently Asked Questions
When is Service?
Sunday service begins at 9am every week. Coffee fellowship follows right after and is also held every week.
Is everyone really welcome?
We strive to be a welcoming church. We recognize that there are groups and communities of people who have been hurt by their experiences with churches. They have been made to feel that they cannot be their God-given selves in church settings. The ELCA is continually working toward reconciliation and to share our fundamental belief that God’s love and grace are limitless and for everyone.
What is a Lutheran?
Lutheranism is a Protestant Christian tradition that traces itself back to the Protestant Reformation, which began in 1517 when Martin Luther posted the 95 thesis on the door of the Wittenberg Cathedral. Our congregation is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. If you wish to know more about our denomination, please visit the national website at elca.org
The sign out front says "Swedish Lutheran Church," is this church only for Swedish people?
Nope! Augustana was founded by Swedish immigrants in 1874, and while some of their descendants still attend, most of us are not Swedish.
What should I wear?
Some people wear suits and dresses, others jeans and t-shirts, come dressed in whatever manner you feel most comfortable.
Can I take Communion?
We currently serve communion every Sunday.
Anyone who wishes to partake of the Lord's Supper is welcome to do so. We have grape juice and gluten free options available for those who need them. If you do not wish to partake, or if you do not wish to have your children partake, you are still welcome to come forward and receive a blessing.
What about my kids?
Children are always welcome!
Sunday school classes are available during service.
